Long-Term Resident Visa
Thailand's LTR is a ten-year residence track for high earners, pensioners and skilled professionals. Its health insurance floor is USD 50,000, materially lower than the retirement visa's, and a USD 100,000 deposit can be substituted for cover entirely.
This record has not been fully source-checked yet. The headline figures come from secondary sources and some fields are incomplete. Treat it as a starting point and confirm with the embassy before acting.

The insurance rule, precisely
The stated floor is $50,000. Meeting that number is necessary but, on this visa, not sufficient:
- Health insurance of at least USD 50,000 in coverage.
- A deposit of USD 100,000 may be used in place of insurance.
What most guides get wrong about the LTR
Each of these is a rule that changed, or a detail that is widely repeated incorrectly. Checked 10 September 2026.
Every Thai long-stay visa demands USD 100,000 of health cover.
The LTR floor is USD 50,000, not 100,000, and it can be substituted with a USD 100,000 deposit. Applicants who assume the retirement visa's rule applies here often over-insure by a wide margin.
Where it wins
- Ten years of certainty, against the DTV's five and the O-A's annual renewal.
- The insurance bar is half the O-A's, and can be replaced by a deposit.
- Comes with a digital work permit and reduced reporting obligations.
Where it doesnβt
- Category qualification is demanding and document-heavy compared to the DTV.
- The 50,000 THB government fee is five times the DTV's.
Who cannot use this visa
- You do not fall into one of the LTR categories (wealthy global citizen, wealthy pensioner, work-from-Thailand professional, or highly-skilled professional).
