Things we got wrong

Every figure on this site that we published and later corrected is listed here, with what it was, what it is now, and how the mistake happened. Figures are never quietly edited. This page is distinct from the rule-change timeline, which records changes in the world rather than errors of ours.

Most of the entries below share a cause worth stating plainly. The first version of this dataset cited real sources, but several of its figures had been taken from search-result summaries — machine-written syntheses that read exactly like quotations and are not. When every quote was first checked against the live page it came from, 10 of 14 could not be found. Fixing that surfaced the errors listed here. The site now refuses to build if a published number has no verbatim quote filed against it, which is described on the editorial policy page.

   We published:

   5,000 THB.

   Corrected to:

   No government fee published.

   This figure had no source at all — it was written from prior knowledge and survived because the audit only checked that the record had citations, not that those citations contained the numbers. Caught when evidence coverage was made mandatory.

   We published:

   Or a combination of deposit and pension reaching 800,000 THB annually.

   Corrected to:

   Combined route not published.

   The Royal Thai Consulate-General's own page states the combined deposit-plus-pension route as 80,000 Baht, which contradicts every secondary source's 800,000. Rather than pick the convenient reading of an official page, the route is omitted and the two unambiguous options are published instead.

   We published:

   USD 500 application fee.

   Corrected to:

   No government fee published.

   The USD 500 figure is widely repeated for this visa but is not stated anywhere on the source page we hold. An absent figure is better than a plausible one.

4. 11 September 2026SRRVdepositRequirement.qualifier

   We published:

   Two deposit tiers: USD 15,000 for 50+ with a pension, rising to USD 50,000 for applicants aged 40-49 without one.

   Corrected to:

   Four tiers: 50+ with pension USD 15,000; 50+ without USD 30,000; aged 40-49 with pension USD 25,000; aged 40-49 without USD 50,000.

   The original figures came from a search-result summary rather than the source page, and collapsed four tiers into the two extremes. The eligibility tool consequently told a 50-plus applicant without a pension they needed USD 50,000 against an actual USD 30,000 — a USD 20,000 error on the precise question the tool exists to answer. Caught by fetching the live page during source verification.

   We published:

   USD 1,500 application fee, plus USD 360 annually.

   Corrected to:

   USD 1,500 one-time application fee for the principal applicant. The annual PRA fee is described by the source only as a few hundred dollars per year, so no figure is published.

   The USD 360 annual figure could not be found on any page we fetched. Removed rather than kept on plausibility.
