How much does the Japan digital nomad visa cost?

By Asia Visa Guide editors · Last verified

The government fee for the Japan digital nomad visa is ¥15,000. Note: Single-entry visa issuance fee for applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026 (multiple-entry 30,000 yen).

About the figure: Single-entry visa issuance fee for applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026 (multiple-entry 30,000 yen). Paid at the Japanese embassy or consulate. These fee figures come from law-firm notices (Fragomen, Newland Chase). We did not find them on an official page, so confirm the fee with your Japanese embassy.

The fee is only part of the cost. This route also asks for proof of income of ¥10,000,000 a year, health insurance that meets the route's conditions, none of which is part of the fee.

Fees are set by the issuing authority and can change without notice, and a fee paid is not refunded if the application is refused on most routes. Confirm the figure on the official page on the day you apply.

Worth knowing before you commit: Six months, full stop — no renewal, and no path onward to a work visa, permanent residence or citizenship from this status

What changed

1 July 2026: Japan raised consular visa fees for the first time since 1978. For applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026, a single-entry visa costs 15,000 yen and a multiple-entry visa 30,000 yen, up from 3,000 and 6,000. Almost every digital-nomad guide written before mid-2026 still quotes the old figure.
