Can you apply for the Thailand DTV from inside Thailand?
By Asia Visa Guide editors · Last verified · draft record, see note
Our record says the DTV is applied for outside Thailand, at the Thai embassy or consulate covering your place of residence.
Embassies publish their own filing instructions and some have changed them recently, so confirm with the Thai embassy or consulate that covers your place of residence before you travel or pay anyone.
A disqualifier to check first: You cannot show proof of permanent residence in the country where you file. Since 31 August 2026 the DTV list asks for it in place of a current-location document.
Status of this record: draft. Not every figure has been confirmed character for character against an official page, so check the embassy or authority page before you pay for anything.
What changed
31 August 2026: Residence evidence is also specific to the handling post. Osaka requires permanent residence in the country or territory where the application is submitted. London requires permanent residence in the UK, Ireland or a British Overseas Territory, and its police certificate must be issued within six months of submission. Oslo lists permanent residence in Norway or Iceland. Confirm the exact residence evidence before applying.
