The SRRV cannot be extended
There is no extension, because nothing expires. Rule II Sec. 2 of the implementing rules says the visa "entitles the holder to reside in the Philippines for an indefinite period with multiple-entry privileges as long as his required minimum deposit ... subsists." What is loosely called renewing the SRRV is three recurring transactions with the Philippine Retirement Authority - at 29/F BDO Towers Valero, Paseo de Roxas, Makati, or through its satellite offices, courier or email - plus one obligation owed to a different agency. With PRA: the annual fee (US$360 for a Classic principal plus two dependents, US$100 for each dependent beyond two); PRA ID card renewal, where the card lapses but the visa underneath does not; and visa sticker restamping, handled by PRA's Restamping Unit (restamping@pra.gov.ph) and costing US$10 to PRA plus PHP 1,010 to the Bureau of Immigration. Separately, the BI Annual Report applies to "All registered aliens and ACR I-Card holders except Temporary Visitor's Visa holders or Tourist Visa holders" and costs PHP 310. None of this is done at an embassy abroad.
What people run into instead
- The PRA annual fee and the Bureau of Immigration Annual Report are separate obligations to separate agencies on separate clocks, and paying one does not satisfy the other. The BI Annual Report costs PHP 310; late filing accrues "a fine of Two Hundred Pesos (P200.00) per month of delay but in no case shall be fine exceed Two Thousand Pesos (P2,000.00) per year."
- A short packet is parked rather than queried. The ID renewal advisory states: "Note: (Incomplete requirements will not be processed)." No one chases the missing item, so a file can sit still without any refusal being issued.
- PRA's own materials disagree on the renewal photo size. The 25 September 2025 advisory specifies "Size: 1.8 inches' x 1.4 inches (Passport Size)", while PRA's ID Services page still lists a 2x2 ID picture in the walk-in renewal requirements. Bring both sizes, or confirm with the office you are filing through before travelling.
- The advisory ends the practice of reusing the photo on file: "the Authority requires all SRRV holders to submit a new photograph when renewing their ID," taken within 6 months of filing - a different window from the 3 months that applies to the eight 2x2 photos at first application. No eyeglasses, which catches members who wore them in every earlier PRA photo.
- If the renewal photo goes by email, the subject line must be the SRRV number of the person in the photo, one email per applicant. The advisory warns that on an error "a replacement fee of US$10.00 will be charged to the retiree."
- Remote renewers miss the fingerprint form. If you cannot appear at PRA for biometric capture, send both the accomplished form and a photograph of yourself accomplishing it.
- Restamping is triggered by passport renewal and by nothing else. PRA's restamping advisory asks members to apply "only when your passport is renewed" and warns that "The visa sticker attached to your new passport may be required by the Immigration officers during your departure or arrival," so an unrestamped new passport surfaces at the airport rather than in the post.
- Changing PRA-accredited banks is a formal transaction, not a bank errand: a Bank Transfer Form, an Authorization Letter for PRA, and a notarized Special Power of Attorney for the bank. Moving the money yourself breaks the deposit condition the visa rests on.
