Why Bali digital nomad visa applications get refused
5 documented causes, specific to this visa. Advice that would apply to any visa application anywhere has been deliberately left out — you have read it already, and it is not why you were refused.

The USD 2,000 is read across three months of statements, not as a balance on the day you file
The index wording asks for a rekening koran covering the last three months in the applicant's or sponsor's name, at a minimum of USD 2,000 or the equivalent. The window is counted back from submission, so a statement pulled weeks earlier can fall outside it, and a lump sum landing shortly before filing leaves most of the three months below the line even though the closing balance clears it. The figure has to hold over the period, not at a moment.
What to do instead
Order the statement within days of filing so it covers the three months immediately before submission, and keep the balance at or above USD 2,000 across that whole window, funded by the same salary deposits you are using as income proof. Royal Visa states that mobile-banking app screenshots are not accepted; use the bank's own downloaded PDF statement carrying letterhead or a digital stamp. If a genuine one-off credit (a bonus, a sale) sits in the window, attach the document explaining it.

The contract does not show an offshore employer paying you offshore
The special requirement is a perjanjian kerja with a company established outside Indonesia. A contract describing generic "consulting services", with no stated salary figure, no employment period, and no payment trail landing in the account you are showing, does not close the loop between employer, income and the statement. An HR letter confirming that someone works remotely is not a substitute for the agreement itself.
What to do instead
File a signed contract naming the job title, the monthly or annual salary and the term of employment, issued by an entity you can separately evidence as foreign-registered (some processing routes ask for a certificate of incorporation). Make the salary figure on the contract reconcile to the deposits visible in the bank statement.

The bank account does not itself prove US$60,000 a year
The index puts the burden on the account: a bank account proving salary or income of at least US$60,000 per year. A gross contract figure that clears the line while the net amounts actually arriving, annualised, land under it is a file whose own evidence contradicts its claim. Emerhub, an agency source rather than a government one, describes the income as needing to come from foreign sources; the official text does not say that, so treat the foreign-source reading as agency practice rather than a published rule.
What to do instead
Annualise what the bank actually receives, not what the contract promises, and check that it clears US$60,000 before submitting. Present the contract figure alongside three months of payslips that reconcile to the deposits.

Filing from inside Indonesia against a higher balance than the published one
Bali Visas publishes a split the official index page does not: USD 2,000 for offshore applicants and USD 5,000 for onshore ones, each across the last three months. Onshore files are also asked for an ITK or permit number and the employing company's certificate of incorporation. Someone who prepared to the published offshore figure and then files onshore gets a document request they did not budget for.
What to do instead
Settle onshore versus offshore before assembling documents. Filing from inside Indonesia, build the statement to USD 5,000 across the full three months and have the incorporation certificate ready. The published USD 2,000 is the floor for the offshore route, not a ceiling on what an onshore file is asked for.

Self-employed or freelance, with no employment agreement to produce
The requirement is written as an employment agreement with a foreign company. Sole traders, agency owners and freelancers hold client contracts and invoices instead, and no published rule says those satisfy it. Agency accounts differ: some report files carried by retainers, client contracts and home-country tax returns; others treat self-employed applicants as carrying real refusal risk. The outcome is not uniform.
What to do instead
If you own a foreign company, file the employment agreement between that company and you as its employee, plus payslips, so the file matches the requirement as written. With no entity behind you, go in with signed retainers, invoices matched to paid receipts, and a home-country tax return covering the same income.
If you have already been refused
None of the sources checked describe an appeal route, a waiting period, or a rule requiring immigration to state which element failed — they are silent rather than confirming any of those, so plan on resubmitting rather than contesting. A refusal costs the government fee already paid plus the processing time: Knowmads Bali reports that approvals at Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I Khusus TPI Ngurah Rai typically take 4–8 weeks, longer for complex files. Because the failing element may not be identified for you, rebuild the documents that carry the mechanics above before resubmitting: the rekening koran (three months counted back from the new submission date, balance held across the window, bank-issued PDF), the employment agreement (named salary, employment period, evidence the employer is foreign-registered), and the reconciliation between the contract figure, the payslips and the deposits. If you were refused while inside Indonesia, track the expiry of the status you are currently on — a refusal does not extend it.
Rejection causes researched 11 September 2026; the visa’s own figures were last checked 10 September 2026. These are separate dates because they are separate pieces of work. Refusal practice is set at individual posts and changes without announcement — treat this as where to look, not as a guarantee.
