How to extend the Cambodia business visa / EB visa
Extension is a separate process from the original application, judged by a different office against different documents. Most of what goes wrong here is specific to that difference.
The procedure

| Timing | File at least two weeks before the current permission expires; three to four weeks is safer, and more around Khmer New Year (mid-April), Pchum Ben (September/October) and Water Festival (November). The Cambodia Expats Online 2026 guide puts processing at 3-10 business days, with 12-month files sometimes up to 15 days; a November 2024 forum post from the same site gives an average of 7-10 business days and advises allowing 14. The application must be filed while the current stay is still valid. The work permit supporting a 6- or 12-month EB runs on its own calendar: apply within 90 days of first entry, renew via FWCMS by 31 March each year, and have the employer file the Foreign Employee Quota between 1 September and 30 November for the following year. |
| How many times | EB is renewable indefinitely, year after year, with no exit requirement, bank deposit, income floor or age minimum. 6- and 12-month extensions carry multiple entry; 1- and 3-month extensions are single entry. EG is the constrained category: single entry, so leaving Cambodia cancels it, and short. The Cambodia Expats Online 2026 guide describes a 6-month maximum renewable once; a detailed November 2024 post on the same site says EG is issued only for 1 or 3 months and can no longer be converted to another extension category in country. Those accounts conflict and neither is a published government text, so confirm EG length with an agent before relying on it. A Tourist (T) visa extends once for 30 days and converts to no E-class category. |
What to bring
- Passport valid well beyond the new visa expiry, and with at least one blank page for the extension sticker (no source states a fixed validity rule; short validity typically results in a shorter grant)
- 2-3 passport photos, 4x6 cm, white background
- Employment letter from a Cambodian employer, signed and company-stamped (self-employed applicants use a letter under their own business stamp)
- Copy of the employer's or your own patent tax certificate (patent tax licence)
- Valid MLVT work permit / employment card for the current calendar year, required for a 12-month EB and for a 6-month EB where the holder works
- FPCS registration filed by your landlord, hotel or property manager at your actual current address
- Extension fee in clean US dollar cash
- Your v-Pass entry record, emailed on arrival since July 2025 in place of a passport stamp
What goes wrong at extension time
- The $285 figure above is an agent market price for a 12-month EB, not a government tariff and not the price of the whole EB/EG category. Two Can Travel lists agent prices of $45-50 for 1 month, $75-80 for 3 months, $160-165 for 6 months and $288-293 for 12 months; the Cambodia Expats Online 2026 guide gives $285-$300 annually for a 12-month EB through an agent. No official published fee schedule for in-country extension of stay was located.
- The term you qualify for is set by paperwork, not by what you request: work permit plus employment letter plus patent tax licence supports 12 months, employment letter plus patent tax licence without a permit supports 6, and no employment letter drops you to a short job-seeker or proposal extension.
- Work permit expiry and visa expiry sit on different clocks. Permits expire on 31 December regardless of issue date and renew by 31 March, so a mid-year visa extension can be filed against a lapsed permit.
- Retroactive exposure: experienced residents report a back work permit fee plus a fine for each calendar year spent in Cambodia on an E-class visa without a permit, whether or not you were employed, so the renewal at which you regularise can cost far more than the visa.
- FPCS registration is the landlord's legal duty but your extension problem, and it commonly breaks right after a move.
- Thin passport validity shortens the grant rather than causing a refusal: a passport expiring in nine months gets 30 days instead of 90.
- Agents will supply the employment letter and patent tax licence for around $50. Residents describe it as accepted rather than legal practice, and FWCMS now shares data with immigration.
- No passport stamps at airports since July 2025: the v-Pass email is the proof of legal entry. A wrong email address at the counter leaves you with no entry document at extension time.
- The Cambodia Expats Online guide, in its September 2026 update, states that all land crossings have been shut since Thailand closed them in June 2025 during the armed border conflict, so a border run to reset status is not available. Border status changes; re-check before relying on it.
- There is no numbered public form. Sources describe an EOS application handled at the counter or by agents, and no official document list was reachable: immigration.gov.kh exposes no extension service pages and evisa.gov.kh sits behind a DDoS challenge and covers visa issue, not in-country extension.
